Privacy policy

What Enigma knows about you

Nothing. This page explains why that is not a figure of speech.

The short version. Enigma has no account, no server and no analytics. It makes no network requests at all. It cannot collect anything about you because it never speaks to anything.

WHAT LEAVES YOUR PHONE

Nothing whatsoever. Every puzzle is generated on the device, in the app, at the moment you ask for it. There is no request to a server for a board, no leaderboard to report to, and no service to check in with.

You can put the phone in aeroplane mode and every part of Enigma still works. That is not a feature we added; it is what happens when an app has no reason to talk to anyone.

WHAT IS STORED

WhatWhere
The puzzle you are part-way throughOn the device. Cleared the moment you finish it
Your best time per game, per difficultyOn the device. A number of seconds, nothing else
Nothing else at all

Both are written to your phone's own storage and are never transmitted, backed up to us, or readable by anyone but you. There is no profile, no identifier and no record of you having used it. Delete the app and nothing of it remains anywhere.

WHAT WE DO NOT DO

CHILDREN

Enigma is suitable for all ages and collects no personal data from anyone, including children. It contains no chat, no user-generated content and no links out to anywhere a child could be sold something.

YOUR RIGHTS

Under UK GDPR you have rights to access, correct and erase personal data held about you. We hold none. If you believe otherwise, write to us and we will look into it properly rather than sending you a form letter.

QUOTES IN THE CRYPTOGRAM

Every quote is in the public domain, either because the author died more than seventy years ago or because the line is ancient. Conan Doyle, Wilde, Poe, Shakespeare, Carroll, Sun Tzu, Marcus Aurelius.

CHANGES

If this ever stops being true, this page changes before the app does, and the change will say plainly what is now collected and why.
